Local denial of service via atomic allocation
Published Nov 7, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper locking in affected Linux 6.4 and later branches allows local users to interrupt service through scheduler activity. In task_tick_mm_cid(), task_work_add() records a KASAN auxiliary stack that can allocate pages while the raw runqueue spinlock is held, causing an invalid sleep in atomic context. Reachability requires both KASAN and PREEMPT_RT, and the documented consequence is a kernel BUG with availability loss rather than data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
