CVE-2024-50115

Guest-triggered out-of-bounds read via unmasked nCR3 bits

Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux KVM nSVM allows guest OS users to read beyond a memslot through a crafted nested CR3 value. The nested_svm_get_tdp_pdptr function uses the unmasked low five nCR3 bits when calculating the PDPTE read offset, although PAE paging requires those bits to be ignored. Reachability requires nested SVM with PAE paging; the out-of-bounds case requires a target page at a memslot boundary and a VMM without guard pages.
