Kernel crash via missing SoundWire runtime allocation
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
A NULL pointer dereference in Linux 6.8 through 6.11.5 allows local users to crash SC7280 systems by starting sound playback. The SC7280 ASoC card driver fails to allocate and release the SoundWire runtime stream after allocation moved from the controller into individual card drivers. Reachability requires an SC7280 system using SoundWire audio; affected 6.12 release candidates can fail through the same uninitialized runtime state.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
