CVE-2024-50064

Local service interruption via zram reset memory leak

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory leak in zram in Linux kernel 6.2 through 6.6.56 and 6.7 through 6.11.3 allows local users to exhaust memory via device resets. The zram_destroy_comps function omits kfree operations for dynamically allocated secondary compression-algorithm names, so each reset abandons those allocations. Reachability requires CONFIG_ZRAM_MULTI_COMP and configured secondary algorithms; repeated resets consume unreclaimed kernel memory until system service is interrupted.
