Kernel use-after-free via Switchtec teardown race
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel Switchtec NTB driver allows local users with administrative privileges to cause unspecified impact during module removal. switchtec_ntb_remove frees sndev without first canceling check_link_status_work, allowing the worker to dereference sndev after it is freed. Reachability requires a configured Switchtec NTB device, the ntb_hw_switchtec driver, and sufficient privilege to remove the module.
