CVE-2024-50041

Service interruption via unsynchronized MAC-filter updates

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Race condition in the Linux kernel i40e driver allows local users to cause a memory leak and interrupt service via concurrent macvlan operations. Calls that delete MAC filters and clear a VF default LAN address modify vsi->mac_filter_hash without holding mac_filter_hash_lock, allowing concurrent updates to leave inconsistent state. Exploitation requires configured i40e virtual functions and concurrent port-VLAN or MAC-filter changes; the documented consequence is availability loss rather than data disclosure or modification.
