Local denial of service via unconditional deferred-I/O cleanup
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper deferred-I/O cleanup in Linux 6.11 through 6.11.3 allows local users to interrupt kernel operation during framebuffer teardown. drm_fbdev_dma_fb_destroy() calls fb_deferred_io_cleanup() unconditionally even when fb_info.fbdefio is NULL because deferred I/O was never initialized. The affected DRM fbdev DMA path requires teardown of a framebuffer that uses no deferred I/O; the published trace occurs during shutdown with an out-of-tree Apple silicon display driver.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
