Local denial of service via unreleased buffer
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux kernel exFAT driver allows local users to exhaust kernel memory by mounting a malformed exFAT filesystem. When the first root-directory entry is not a bitmap entry, exfat_load_bitmap() continues without releasing the current buffer head before it is reassigned. Local access and processing of a malformed exFAT filesystem are required; repeated triggering exhausts kernel memory and can hang or crash the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
