Kernel warning via racy noexec flag check
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
Race condition in fs/exec.c in Linux 5.9 and later allows local users to trigger an unwarranted kernel warning during execve. A redundant path_noexec check reads mount noexec state after the permission check, so a concurrent flag change can make WARN_ON report a condition that execution did not violate. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a race with changing noexec state; published evidence identifies no confidentiality or integrity impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
