Local service interruption via extended-scan buffer overwrite
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the mwifiex Wi-Fi driver in affected Linux kernels allows local users to interrupt service through an extended scan. mwifiex_cmd_802_11_scan_ext() copies as many as 243 bytes of TLV data into tlv_buffer, which was declared as a one-byte trailing array instead of a flexible-array member. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and an active mwifiex device; the published assessment reports availability impact only.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
