Service interruption via DSA shutdown race
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Null pointer dereference in Linux and affected Siemens MFP firmware allows local users to crash systems during DSA shutdown. The DSA shutdown path clears driver data and conduit->dsa_ptr without first stopping the PHY state machine or quiescing concurrent packet reception, enabling null dereferences. Reachability requires local low-privileged access, DSA switch use, and a shutdown race; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
