CVE-2024-49994Public exploit

Local service hang via secure-erase integer overflow

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Sep 8, 2026

Integer overflow in the Linux kernel block ioctl handler and Siemens MFP GNU/Linux subsystem allows local users to hang the system. The BLKSECDISCARD path accepts an offset-plus-length range whose 64-bit sum wraps, then passes the invalid range to blkdev_issue_secure_erase, which loops over sectors beyond the device end. Reaching the flaw requires local low-privileged access and a block-device file; triggering it can monopolize the secure-erase path in a near-infinite loop.
