CVE-2024-49975

Kernel memory disclosure via uninitialized uprobes page

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Information disclosure in uprobes in Linux allows local users to read uninitialized kernel memory through an XOL mapping. xol_add_vma maps a page returned by __create_xol_area into userspace without first initializing it; executable mappings are readable on x86. A local user able to invoke uprobes or inspect the mapping with a debugger can recover residual page contents, with no reported write capability.
