CVE-2024-49953

Host crash via double XFRM state deletion

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Denial of service in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to crash the host through the mlx5e IPsec offload path. The mlx5e IPsec delayed worker calls xfrm_state_check_expire() without confirming that km.state remains XFRM_STATE_VALID, allowing an already-dead XFRM state to be marked expired and deleted again by the timer. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an mlx5e IPsec offload configuration; the resulting general-protection fault interrupts the host.
