CVE-2024-49938

Local denial of service via uninitialized skb length

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Uninitialized-pointer access in Linux ath9k_htc allows local users to crash the system through malformed USB Wi-Fi receive errors. The ath9k_hif_usb_reg_in_cb and ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb callbacks call skb_trim on an skb whose existing length can be uninitialized in error paths instead of directly resetting it to zero. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and applicable Atheros USB Wi-Fi hardware; the documented consequence is an availability-only system interruption.
