CVE-2024-49935

System crash via invalid ACPI CPU index

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

A crash in the ACPI Processor Aggregator driver in Linux allows local users to interrupt the system during CPU idling. exit_round_robin() passes the sentinel CPU index 0xffffffff to cpumask_clear_cpu(), causing clear_bit() to calculate an invalid address. Low-privileged local access and operation of the ACPI PAD power-saving thread are required, and successful exploitation crashes the kernel without reported data disclosure or modification.
