Local denial of service via unchecked display pointers
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the AMD display driver in affected Linux kernels allows local users to crash the kernel during display updates. create_validate_stream_for_sink uses a possibly null dm_state, while amdgpu_dm_atomic_commit_tail can read a missing dc_link during HDCP updates. Reachability requires local low-privileged access and an AMD GPU display configuration; the documented consequence is system-wide availability loss without data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
