Local kernel crash via NULL callback dereference
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux AMD display driver allows local users to crash the kernel when a gamma callback is absent. In dcn32_set_output_transfer_func, the code calls set_output_gamma without first ensuring that the function pointer is non-NULL. Low-privileged local access is required; the public record does not identify the user action that leaves the callback NULL.
