Local system crash via unchecked framebuffer pointer
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel 4.15 through 6.11.2 allows local users to crash systems through an AMD GPU cursor update. amdgpu_dm_plane_handle_cursor_update dereferences the afb framebuffer pointer during a cursor plane state update without first verifying that it is non-NULL. Low-privileged local access and an AMD GPU cursor update path are required; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
