CVE-2024-49900

Memory disclosure and crash via uninitialized JFS buffer

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Uninitialized memory use in Linux JFS and Siemens' GNU/Linux subsystem allows local users to disclose memory or crash the system through xattrs. In ea_get(), the JFS extended-attribute buffer's new_ea field is left uncleared; ea_put() later preserves those bytes for lzo1x_1_do_compress(). Reachability requires local write access to extended attributes on a mounted JFS filesystem, and the bounded consequences are memory disclosure or a system crash.
