Local kernel crash via unchecked phantom stream
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel through AMD DCN 3.2 SubVP display handling. The dcn32_add_phantom_pipes function passes a null result from dcn32_enable_phantom_stream to dcn32_enable_phantom_plane, which dereferences the stream while configuring its viewport. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a relevant AMD display configuration; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
