CVE-2024-49892

Local system crash via zero element divisor

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Divide-by-zero in the Linux kernel 4.15 and later allows local users to crash affected systems through AMD display processing. In the dcn20 and dcn21 display request calculations, get_bytes_per_element() can leave bytes_per_element_y or bytes_per_element_c at zero before either value is used as a divisor. Reachability requires low-privilege local access and an affected AMD display path, including affected SIMATIC subsystem deployments; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash and service interruption.
