CVE-2024-49886

Kernel memory corruption via package-ID array indexing

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users to disclose or corrupt kernel memory through the ISST interface. _isst_if_get_pci_dev indexes an array sized for logical packages with a potentially sparse physical package ID, reading or writing beyond the allocation. The path requires local access to /dev/isst_interface or CPU hotplug on a system with the ISST driver and sparse package IDs, and it can disclose memory, corrupt kernel state, or panic the host.
