Kernel crash via premature ADP5589 cleanup
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel ADP5589 keyboard driver allows local users to crash the system during a failed device probe. A managed cleanup action calls adp5589_clear_config(), which retrieves client data before i2c_set_clientdata() has stored the device object. Reachability requires the ADP5589 driver and an early probe failure; dereferencing the missing object interrupts the host by crashing the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
