Kernel crash via malformed BPF CO-RE relocation
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the kernel via a malformed BPF CO-RE relocation record. In kernel/bpf/btf.c, bpf_core_calc_relo_insn dereferences a missing BTF type after a BPF_CORE_TYPE_ID_LOCAL record supplies a nonexistent type ID. The path accepts malformed relocation records from user space; successful triggering causes availability loss without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
