Remote code execution via GIF dimension overflow
Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in giflib in Google Cloud Android 12 through 15 allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted GIF image. DGifSlurp multiplies untrusted image width and height values to calculate ImageSize, but the old guard tests an impossible pair of negative dimensions and lets the signed product overflow before allocating and filling the image buffer. No privileges or user interaction are required, and successful memory corruption permits code execution in the processing context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
