Local privilege escalation via unchecked Parcel write
Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Mar 19, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android Framework 12, 12L, 13, 14, and 15 allows local users to escalate privileges via Binder parcel data. Parcel::writeInplace writes into an existing buffer without first calling validateReadData, allowing a write to overlap protected Binder object regions. Exploitation requires local low-privileged code but no user interaction, and successful memory corruption can raise privileges on the affected device.
