CVE-2024-49732

Local privilege escalation via unchecked permission-sync APIs

Published Jan 21, 2025 · Updated Mar 13, 2025

Missing authorization in the Android 15 Framework allows local users to elevate privileges through Companion Device permission-sync APIs. CompanionDeviceManagerService exposes enablePermissionsSync, disablePermissionsSync, and getPermissionSyncRequest without verifying that the Binder caller uses the system UID. A low-privileged local app can invoke these hidden APIs without user interaction to control permission synchronization without user consent.
