CVE-2024-49570

Local kernel compromise via deferred trace dereference

Published Feb 27, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel's DRM/Xe tracing allows local users to read or modify kernel data and crash the system. The xe_bo_move trace event retains placement indexes and dereferences xe_mem_type_to_name entries later during TP_printk formatting rather than copying the names into the trace record. The path requires local low-privileged access and an active Intel Xe graphics driver; no user interaction is required.
