Tab code execution via unchecked external messages
Published Oct 25, 2024 · Updated Oct 25, 2024
Universal XSS in smartUp 7.2.622.1170 for Edge and Firefox allows attackers controlling another extension to execute code in the active tab. The external-message listener skips sender identity validation, then funOnMessage interpolates attacker-controlled apptype data into chrome.tabs.executeScript. A malicious extension must already be installed, after which code runs in the tab context and can compromise accounts open in that tab.
