CVE-2024-49118Network attack vector

Remote code execution via use-after-free race

Published Dec 10, 2024 · Updated Jun 9, 2026

A use-after-free race in Microsoft Message Queuing on affected Windows builds allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code over the network. MSMQ accesses an object after freeing it when concurrent processing wins a race during a specific operation that recurs infrequently. The MSMQ service must be installed and network-reachable; no authentication or user interaction is required, and Microsoft has not disclosed the triggering request sequence.
