CVE-2024-49041Network attack vector

Code execution via hidden download extension

Published Dec 6, 2024 · Updated Jun 9, 2026

File-extension spoofing in Microsoft Edge before 131.0.2903.86 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted download. The download prompt hides the true extension of a crafted filename, presenting executable content as a harmless file type. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file, and code runs in the current user's context.
