CVE-2024-49039Known exploitation

Privilege escalation via AppContainer escape to privileged RPC

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026

Improper authentication in Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler allows local users to escape AppContainer isolation and elevate privileges. Task Scheduler permits an attacker-provided local application to cross its AppContainer boundary and reach privileged RPC functions, but Microsoft has not identified the faulty validation locus. A low-privileged user must run code locally; successful exploitation breaks the application's sandbox without user interaction.
