Code execution via uninitialized resource use
Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Jul 8, 2025
Use of an uninitialized resource in Microsoft Excel allows attackers to execute code when a user opens a crafted workbook. Microsoft identifies the weakness in Excel but has not disclosed the affected parser or function, or how workbook data causes the resource to be used before initialization. Exploitation requires user interaction, and successful code runs with the privileges of the user who opens the file.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
