Remote code execution via use-after-free
Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Jul 8, 2025
Use-after-free in SQL Server Native Client in Microsoft SQL Server 2016 through 2019 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. Microsoft identifies the lifetime error as use-after-free but has not published the affected function, object, or crafted input that releases and reuses it. Exploitation requires user interaction on an affected system; successful execution compromises the client process's data and operation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
