Stored XSS via imported malicious commit notes
Published Jun 26, 2024 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Stored XSS in GitLab CE/EE 16.9 through 16.11.4, 17.0 through 17.0.2, and 17.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts in viewers' browsers. GitLab has not disclosed which import or rendering routine fails to neutralize the malicious commit-note content. Exploitation requires project-import access and a separate user's interaction with a rendered malicious note, enabling browser-context data access and actions as that user.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=16.9 <16.11.5
- Affected versionversion=17.0 <17.0.3
