CVE-2024-48982Network attack vector

Service interruption via HCI length underflow

Published Nov 20, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Buffer overflow in Arm Mbed OS 6.16.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt service using crafted Bluetooth HCI command-complete packets. The Cordio hciEvtProcessCmdCmpl function subtracts three from an unchecked 8-bit length, adds metadata in another 8-bit value, and copies the declared remainder into an undersized heap buffer. Reachability requires the Cordio dual-chip BLE path and a crafted HCI event delivered through the Bluetooth controller; exploitation is generally limited to service interruption rather than system takeover.
