CVE-2024-48924Network attack vector

CPU exhaustion via predictable hash collisions

Published Oct 17, 2024 · Updated Oct 18, 2024

Denial of service in MessagePack-CSharp before 2.5.187 and 2.6.95-alpha through 3.0.214-rc.1 allows remote attackers to exhaust CPU. MessagePackSecurity collision-resistant comparers use predictable System.HashCode-based hashing for attacker-controlled map keys, enabling contrived collisions during deserialization. Exposure requires an application to deserialize attacker-controlled MessagePack data; crafted key sets drive disproportionate hash-table work and can stall the service.
