CVE-2024-48872Network attack vector

Unauthenticated login-attempt limit bypass via race condition

Published Dec 16, 2024 · Updated Dec 16, 2024

Race condition in Mattermost allows remote attackers to bypass failed-login limits by sending simultaneous login requests. In 9.5.0 through 9.5.12, 9.11.0 through 9.11.4, 10.0.0 through 10.0.2, and 10.1.0 through 10.1.2, the server checks and updates a shared failed-attempt counter without synchronization, allowing concurrent requests to proceed from a pre-block state. No authentication is required, and the bypass permits many password attempts before account blocking rather than granting access directly.
