Authenticated code execution via upload.cgi overwrite
Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated Jan 23, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in GestioIP 3.5.7 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through its upload endpoint. The /gestioip/api/upload.cgi handler accepts an attacker-chosen file_name and writes uploaded content over its own CGI script without restricting the destination or dangerous file type. Valid application credentials are required; replacing the handler with a Perl backdoor grants command execution in the web server's security context.
