CVE-2024-48425Public exploit

Application crash via unchecked null root node

Published Oct 24, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2024

Null-pointer dereference in Open Asset Import Library Assimp 5.4.3 and earlier allows local users to crash applications via malformed 3D models. SplitLargeMeshesProcess_Triangle::UpdateNode reads through the scene root-node pointer without first rejecting a null root during mesh post-processing. A consuming application must process attacker-controlled model data with large-mesh splitting enabled; the demonstrated consequence is process termination, with no reported data disclosure or modification.
