Local code execution via freed log-stream pointer
Published Oct 24, 2024 · Updated Oct 29, 2024
Use-after-free in CallbackToLogRedirector in Assimp 5.4.3 allows local users to execute arbitrary code through crafted model input. The logging path frees a LogToCallbackRedirector object during aiDetachLogStream, then dereferences its dangling log-stream pointer during a later import. Triggering the condition requires local execution of software using the affected library and attacker-controlled model data; the demonstrated result is a process abort, while the CVE record states arbitrary code execution.
