SYSTEM privilege escalation via named-pipe impersonation
Published Nov 18, 2024 · Updated Nov 19, 2024
Privilege escalation in Quick Heal AntiVirus Pro and Total Security 24.0 allows local users to gain SYSTEM access via a named pipe. The SYSTEM-level wssrvc.exe service repeatedly connects to \.\Pipe\pipe_quickup without validating the server and accepts an attacker-controlled pipe. A local account holding SeImpersonatePrivilege can host that pipe, impersonate the service client, and execute with NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges.
