Service interruption via backtracking token authentication parser
Published Oct 16, 2024 · Updated Oct 17, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in Ruby on Rails Action Controller allows remote attackers to interrupt service via a crafted Authorization header. Token.raw_params splits authentication parameters with a whitespace-wrapped delimiter regex whose repeated whitespace matching backtracks excessively on untrusted header text. The path is reachable only in applications using HTTP Token authentication on Ruby before 3.2, and the resulting CPU consumption delays request processing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
