File disclosure and code execution via absolute URLs
Published Oct 24, 2024 · Updated Oct 25, 2024
Path traversal and SSRF in OpenRefine SIMILE Butterfly before 1.2.6 allow remote attackers to read local or network-shared files. ButterflyModuleImpl.getResource passes file:/ resource names directly to java.net.URL instead of resolving and restricting them to the module directory. Network access can expose files; a crafted application URL can load browser JavaScript, while attacker-controlled template names can execute remote templates.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
