Unauthenticated gateway crash via empty copy-source header
Published Nov 12, 2025 · Updated Nov 12, 2025
Improper input validation in Ceph RGW 19.2.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the gateway via an empty S3 copy-source header. RGWCopyObj::parse_copy_location accepts an empty HTTP_X_AMZ_COPY_SOURCE value and indexes name_str[0] without checking that the string has content. No authentication or user interaction is required; a crafted object-copy request terminates the RGW daemon and interrupts S3 service.
