CVE-2024-47855Network attack vector

Denial of service via unterminated comment loop

Published Oct 4, 2024 · Updated Nov 7, 2024

Denial of service in JSONTokener in JSON-lib before 3.1.0 allows remote attackers to hang JSON-processing threads via unclosed comments. The nextClean method reads past the end of input while searching for the closing comment delimiter, then backs up and repeats instead of terminating the scan. Any network-facing application that passes attacker-controlled JSON to the library can leave its handling thread busy indefinitely, consuming resources and blocking legitimate work.
