CVE-2024-47850Public exploitNetwork attack vector

DDoS amplification via attacker-directed HTTP probe loop

Published Oct 4, 2024 · Updated Oct 11, 2024

Resource-consumption flaw in OpenPrinting CUPS before 2.5b1 allows remote attackers to amplify DDoS traffic through cups-browsed. cups-browsed accepts a single legacy CUPS browsing datagram on UDP port 631, trusts its printer URI, and repeatedly sends HTTP POST probes to the selected host and port. Exploitation requires the daemon to listen for legacy browsing packets; one packet can drive sustained outbound requests until the daemon stops.
