Unauthenticated SQL injection via backtick-wrapped functions
Published Oct 5, 2024 · Updated Oct 7, 2024
SQL injection in Wikimedia Foundation MediaWiki Cargo 3.6.0 allows remote attackers to execute disallowed SQL functions. Cargo's SQL-function validator fails to recognize function names wrapped in backticks, so a crafted Special:CargoQuery field reaches the database despite the configured function allowlist. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful requests can expose database contents and alter returned query results, with no reported service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
