Service interruption via recursive image optimization

Uncontrolled recursion in Next.js 10.0.0 through 14.2.6 allows remote attackers to interrupt service through image optimization requests. The image optimizer's URL check rejects only strings beginning with /_next/image and therefore accepts encoded, absolute, or asset-prefixed URLs that recursively invoke the optimizer and consume CPU. Exposure requires self-hosting with the default image loader; Vercel-hosted applications and configurations that disable optimization or use a custom loader are unaffected.
